St. James Parish operates one of Louisiana’s oldest rural public services. The fare is $1.00 for each one way trip. The service offered is a deviated route, meaning the service may deviate from the fixed route under certain circumstances. RPTA and St. James Parish Transit are working together to develop procedures for transfers between the two systems. RPTA and St. James Transit will coordinate trips between the two services for the convenience of riders, however both require scheduling of trips 48 hours in advance to accomplish this goal. RPTA and St. James Transit have different service hours so speaking with a St. James Parish Transit or RPTA reservationist to schedule a transfer will be most important! St. James residents are encouraged to continue to contact St. James Transit at 225-562-2352 to schedule a trip. Let the St. James Transit staff know that you would like to connect with the RPTA. St. James dispatchers will assist you in determining the availability of connecting trips. St. Charles and St. John the Baptist residents wishing to connect to St. James Transit should contact the RPTA for assistance in scheduling the connecting trip. Total cost for the connecting trip will be $3.00 (RPTA $2.00 fare plus St. James Parish Transit $1.00 fare). For more information about St. James Parish Transit visit the Parish website at the link below. RPTA and St. James will continue to meet and work out this coordination effort.
